Exploring the Elements of Design through Photography

图片
Exploring the Elements of Design through Photography                                             Composition         This drawing shows composition by placing the computer, keyboard, and mouse clearly within the frame. The objects are arranged so the viewer’s eye is guided toward the center of the image. The layout feels organized and intentional. Balance This image demonstrates balance through the even placement of objects across the space. The visual weight on each side of the drawing feels equal, even if it is not perfectly symmetrical. This creates a stable and comfortable composition. Contrast Contrast is shown through the use of light and dark shading. The darker areas make the objects stand out against the lighter background. This helps separate the subject from its surroundings. Emphasis The computer screen is empha...

The final black and white repeating painting

图片
  >During the creative process, I gradually realized that repetition is not simply copying, but a process that requires focus and patience. To maintain the unity of the pattern, I constantly adjusted the position and proportion of the shapes, which gave me a deeper understanding of order and rhythm. ___________________________________________________ >What I love most about the artwork is the visual rhythm and balance created by the repetition of black and white rhombuses. The high-contrast colors make the repeated shapes clearer, giving the overall image an orderly yet powerful feel. _____________________________________________________ >If I were to recreate it, I would add variations while maintaining the repetitive structure, such as changing the size of some shapes or the arrangement of black and white. This would create more layers and visual focus within the unity. _______________________________________________________ >I believe my drawing skills have improved,...

Formal interrelationships

图片
Detachment                                                In this composition, the forms remain fully separate, each holding its own territory without overlap or contact. Their isolation creates a visual stillness, allowing the viewer to focus on the individuality and integrity of each shape. Detachment emphasizes how distance can shape perception, generating tension through empty space rather than physical interaction. The separation highlights difference, independence, and the quiet presence of each form. By refusing connection, the shapes invite the viewer to consider how meaning emerges no...

Met Museum Visit

图片
A Visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Last weekend, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. As one of the world's most famous museums, its size and the sheer number of exhibits still exceeded my expectations. Each gallery was like a door to history, allowing me to travel through millennia of civilizations from Egypt, Greece, Europe, and Asia in just a few hours. The Egyptian Art Gallery impressed me the most. The towering columns, colossal statues, and sarcophagi inscribed with hieroglyphs all evoked a sense of solemnity from antiquity. These artifacts were not merely works of art, but rather marks left by time, making one truly aware of the glorious existence of ancient civilizations on Earth. My favorite exhibit throughout the visit was an Egyptian sarcophagus with a golden mask. Its lines, proportions, and mysterious golden sheen captivated me for a long time. The Met's design of lighting and space is also meticulous, making each exhibit s...

Figure Ground Cutouts

图片
Figure Ground Cutouts  This artwork employs a striking figure-ground relationship, using the contrast between yellow figures and a green background to create visual depth. The yellow portion, acting as the "figure," is multifaceted, resembling an abstract face or biological image, drawing the viewer's attention.  The green background, serving as the "background," accentuates and defines the boundaries of the figures, making the yellow portion stand out even more. Both are interdependent and indispensable. Simultaneously, at certain edges, a visual interchangeability effect occurs between figure and ground.  For example, the jagged and curved sections on the right can be seen as part of the figure or as an extension of the background, creating a visual experience of alternati...

point, line, and plane

图片
My main challenge in painting with the                                   "point, line, and plane" design approach is achieving balance and rhythm. Initially, I was easily drawn into figurative thinking, which resulted in lines and shapes appearing cluttered or monotonous. Later, I reflected that composition isn't just a technique; it's also a way of thinking, requiring attention to visual rhythm and spatial relationships. By observing excellent works and practicing repeatedly, I learned to find contrast and harmony in composition, giving the image a more designed feel.
